
The tragic death of 8 people caused due to the lack of oxygen in a Delhi hospital today, the Delhi HC issued strict directions to Central Government in order to ensure that Delhi receives the allocated quantity of 490MT Oxygen today by whatever means. The Hon’ble bench comprising of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rekha Palli issued the directions in a special sitting which was held on Sunday.

The bench was hearing an urgent application filed by the Batra Hospital, stating that they were facing an acute shortage of medical oxygen and during the hearing, the hospital informed about their 8 patients who were in ICU, died due to the shortage of oxygen. The bench had observed that 490 MT per day is the quantity which was allocated by the Centre for the National Capital Territory of Delhi but it had remained only to the paper allocation to the present date., the said quantity has not been received on any day. Further, the bench said that if the given directions are not implemented then the concerned authority should remain present in the Hon’ble Court on Monday, also the court had warned as it might consider contempt action against the Central Government officers in such case.
